The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg with one of the largest ports in Europe is the second largest city in Germany with its 1.7 million inhabitants. Hamburg is also culturally and commercially the center of Northern Germany. The sightseeing tour includes a drive around the Inner Alster River to view its skyline of church spires.
You stop at the Rathausmarkt, dominated by the magnificent City Hall with its tall clock tower, built in Renaissance style. Time left to browse around perhaps at the nearby landing-stage of Jungfernstieg with elegant shops and its well-known Alsterpavillon-Cafe. As a highlight of today you take a cruise of Hamburg's bustling harbor.
Also the countryside of Hamburg is marvelous and attractive, especially the fruit plantations of the Altes Land with their beautiful old farm houses. Finally it will take you just an hour to get to the old Hanseatic City of Luebeck. The historical town center on the Trave River with the Marien's Church twin tower, the Holsten Tower, the splendid burgher houses, like the Buddenbrookshaus, is very quaint and impressive. |
