Magnificent Berlin
This shore excursion includes all the highlights and ample time for shopping or browsing in Berlin!
Drive by the historic Brandenburg Gate, the former border between the East andWest part of Germany's capital. A stop will be made on Friedrichstrasse at world famous Check Point Charlie, once the main border crossing point. Here you will get an overall view of how the Wall deviled Berlin and its people for more than 40 years! Among other spectacular sights are the former Reichstag building which today houses the German Parliament and the Gendarmenmarkt with its historical Concert Hall flanked by French and German Cathedrals.
At Opera Square you will see the State Opera House, old Humboldt University, the National Library and St. Hedwig's Cathedral. You pass the Schoeneberg Town Hall with a bronze plaque reminding visitors of President Kennedy's famous speech in July 1963 „... ich bin ein Berliner!”. Continuing and see nearby the ruin of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial-Church, kept as a reminder of World War II destruction...
Following this tour there is time left for shopping or just browsing, perhaps on prestigious Kurfuerstendamm, right in the center of the city with 2 miles of cafes, restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, boutiques and much more! If you prefer you can visit one of the exciting museums of Berlin, for example the Pergamon Museum (can be included in the program with some extra cost).
Berlin by coach (12.5 hours)
The 3½ hours tour from the harbor city Rostock-Warnemuende to Berlin leads first through the lovely lake region of Mecklenburg. Soft drinks will be served on board (not included in cost). On the way a short comfort stop will be made. In Berlin you will participate in an escorted sightseeing tour as shown above. Your arrival back to the cruise ship in Warnemuende will be in time for dinner on board.
Berlin by train (12.5 hours)
Your tour will start with a 2½ - 3-hours train ride by special chartered train to Berlin. Snack boxes will be provided before departure. Upon arrival, your expert city guide will meet you and late-model motor-coaches will take you in front of the station, ready to start your sightseeing of the German capital (program above). During the afternoon you will board your train back to Warnemuende. Snack boxes will be given out for your return. Arrive in Warnemuende in time for boarding your Cruise Liner.
Berlin by helicopter (9.5 hours)
A short transfer will bring you from the pier side of your Cruise Liner to the helipad. Enjoy an exciting one-hour helicopter flight to Berlin over the beautiful landscape ofMecklenburg! Approaching Berlin you will have a 40-minutes aerial sightseeing over Germany's capital, showing you the magnificent cityscape with its outstanding monuments from the air. Upon landing at airport Berlin-Tempelhof your English speaking driver/guide awaits you for a individual city sightseeing (program highlights of „Magnificent Berlin”). There will be time for lunch, shopping or other activities (lunch and admission fees not included). During late afternoon you will board your helicopter for return flight to Rostock-Warnemuende. Before leaving Berlin airspace, you will fly over Potsdam to get an impression of the famous palaces, gardens and parks. Upon landing in Warnemuende, a van will bring you back to the ship.
